Progressing our city’s Games legacy
In six years’ time, Ipswich and Springfield will be catapulted onto the global stage as the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games begin.
Ipswich is a co-host city and Brighton Homes Arena is confirmed as a Games venue which means that the city that we all know and love will welcome the world in 2032.
Council is marking this six-year milestone with a breakfast event at Brighton Homes Arena this month, bringing together community and sporting leaders to discuss the opportunities for Ipswich’s Olympic and Paralympic legacy after the Games.
The discussion will also look at how the Ipswich community can really get involved, from volunteering during the Games, to procurement opportunities for local businesses in the lead-up to the Games.
Council is making the most of the momentum of the 2032 Games by attracting hotels and accommodation providers such as Hilton Garden Inn Ipswich, building our tourism profile, investing in sporting infrastructure such as the North Ipswich Sports and Entertainment Precinct, and pushing for Games On! funding to secure a synthetic athletics track for Ipswich.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our city, and council will work to make it count in a way that benefits not only our present, but our future.
Supporting a stronger community
More than 430 recipients benefited from $1.2 million through Ipswich City Council’s Community Funding Programs across 2025-2026.
That includes more than $120,000 for organisations in and around Springfield, including the Greater Springfield RSL Sub Branch, Springfield Waterworx Swimming Club, Springfield United Football Club and the Mater Foundation to name only a few.
Strong communities don’t happen by chance, they are built by passionate volunteers and local organisations who give their time to make Ipswich a better place.
Council’s funding programs help turn great ideas into real projects that strengthen community connections and improve quality of life across our city.
Council is proud to lend a hand to the people who make these projects come to life and make a difference in our city because every funded project contributes to a stronger, more connected Ipswich.
Funding is available for a range of initiatives including community events, environment projects, arts programs and sport achievements to highlight a few.

Council-business partnerships for a better Ipswich
Ipswich businesses have an opportunity to partner with council to help deliver the next five years of community projects for Ipswich.
Tenders are open for council’s Municipal Works Prequalified Supplier Panels for 2026–2031, which means qualified and licensed businesses from Ipswich and beyond can put their names forward to join the Municipal Works Prequalified Supplier Panels.
Contractors on a range of Panels will be pre-approved to apply to deliver a wide range of municipal works and services as our city continues to grow over the next five years.
This streamlines the procurement process and gives businesses opportunities to partner with council in the delivery of local projects benefitting our communities.
Across the previous five-year period, approved local contractors delivered more than $6 million worth of projects annually, so we encourage Ipswich businesses to apply.
